Bradley T. Erford

Bradley T. Erford, Ph.D. is the 2012-2013 President of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and a professor in the school counseling program of the Education Specialties Department in the School of Education at Loyola University Maryland. He has authored or edited more than 15 books. His research specialization falls primarily in development and technical analysis of psycho-educational tests and outcomes research and has resulted in the publication of several dozen refereed journal articles, more than 100 book chapters, and ten published tests. He has received numerous awards for his scholarship and service to the counseling profession from ACA and the Association for Assessment in Counseling and Education (AACE), organizations within which he has held numerous leadership positions.

Distinguished Professor of Counseling and the Director of the Center for Research and Counselor Education at Sam Houston State University. He has published over 115 professional publications including 6 books and over 90 journal articles and book chapters. Dr. Watts is a Fellow of the American Counseling Association, a Diplomat in Adlerian Psychology, and President-elect of the North American Society for Adlerian Psychology. He is currently a member of the American Counseling Association’s (ACA) Ethics Revision Task Forced, which is charged with revising the ACA Code of Ethics. Dr. Watts is also the Immediate Past Editor of Counseling and Values, the journal of the Association for Spiritual, Ethical, and Religious Values in Counseling. He has received numerous awards for this scholarship and service to the ACA and several of its division.
Keynote Title: "Reflecting As If: An Integrative, Encouragement-Focused Brief Counseling Process"
Reflecting As If (RAI) is a strengths-based, encouragement-focused brief counseling process that integrates elements from Adlerian, solution-focused, and narrative counseling perspectives. In this skill-focused presentation, audience members will be introduced to the basic RAI counseling protocol and learn how to apply it in various counseling practice settings. The RAI process is accessible and straightforward, and employs several evidence-based techniques, including (a) collaborative goal-setting; (b) collaborative brainstorming as a step in problem-solving; (c) a focus on concrete and measurable behaviors; and (d) concrete behavioral planning. This practical presentation will be useful for counselors, educators and supervisors.
